Waiting

Don't you just hate sitting at home waiting for something? I am currently hanging around waiting for someone to come and view the house to see if they want to buy it. So far they haven't shown up so I thought I'd make use of the time and update the blog. It will also take my mind off the fact that I am missing a gardening meeting because I have to be here to show the house to the prospective buyer.
Nick and I went out for dinner to No.16 on Friday night and had a lovely meal there again. Then on Saturday Nick went off with some friends early in the morning for a big golf day out. They all had fun and despite the photo below, they are planning on doing it again sometime in April.

Ivan, Rob & Craig enjoying the sun.
Talking of sun it was a beautiful weekend, so needless to say while Nick was away golfing Tom & Lily were charging around the back yard half naked desperate to jump in the pool because it was 'so hot'. What true Brits they are, the first sign of sun and Lily's in her bikini and Tom is running around in only his underpants!! I, however, appear to have acclimatised to American life a bit better than them and whilst I did sit out and enjoy the sun, I was fully dressed in slippers, socks, jeans, t shirt and hoody (fully zipped and laterly with the hood up!) It was, after all, only around 65F.. Oh dear, what's going to happen when I come home this summer? I guess I'll be wearing jumpers a lot.
On Monday I was off on a Fruit Tree Pruning Course which was very interesting, so if you are thinking of planting any fruit trees, I'm your gal. I'm still not comfortable with pruning trees that don't belong to me though, so that's something I need to work on.

Surviving Snowmageddon

Gosh, it's the 16th of Feb already. The weather is still the big topic of conversation here as we are still in the middle of the worst winter ever and are still having freezing overnight temperatures. Gardening has been a challenge as it's so cold. I have decided to take supplies of hot chocolate and milk with me tomorrow to ensure we stop for a break mid morning, a rather cunning plan I thought.
Earlier on in the month we celebrate the first of many 40th birthdays this year at Marie's, so congrats to her and Happy Birthday to John who is out in the Falklands and celebrated his 40th too. Sorry we forgot to send you a card.
As our winter weekend in Destin drew nearer the weathermen were in a frenzy of excitement as 4 -6 inches of snow was forecast for our area. Needless to say, everywhere closed down for the day and there was panic buying of bread and milk at the local stores!! Hilarious.
So school was closed on Friday along with Nick's work so we managed to head off to Destin earlier than planned and probably drove through the worst of the storm.

This is a sign for Panama City, you can just make out the truck up ahead who kindly cleared the road for me with his big wide tracks that I was able to follow thus making the journey not quite as treacherous as it might have been!
I kept getting Nick to take photos as we drove down the 331 to Destin as it was so unusual to see this much snow in Alabama.

Safely in Destin it was a standard weekend with a trip to the beach to build sandcastles and play rugby (not me obviously!) while I sat in a chair watching the sea and flicking through a magazine. We all ended up with rosy cheeks that day as none of us thought to put sunscreen on our faces. Then it was back to our cabin for a warming bowl of soup before showering and having a relax prior to our evening at John & Aimee's which is always good fun.

Sunday morning we had a game of golf before driving home in much nicer weather and chilling out for the rest of the day.
